Maintenance tank - reset 76_9600
Maintenance tank - reset 76_9600Resetting the maintenance tank.
As far as resetting the maintenance tank, I have yet to purchase a replacement tank,
I just replace the absorbent material in the tank with “feminine products” when it is needed
and reset the counter using the instructions below:

-turn off your printer
-press PAPER SOURCE+PAPER FEED+CUT/EJECT buttons at the same time and keep
them pressed
-turn on the printer
-you can now release the buttons
-A new hidden menu appears
-press DOWN, CLEAR COUNTERS option should appear
-press RIGHT
-press UP, MAINT TANK should appear
-press RIGHT
-press ENTER (CUT/EJECT button)
-et voilà!

Please be careful when following these procedures, and we cannot be held responsible for any “slips” of finger.

DO NOT just reset the tank without checking how full the tank is !!

This method is not encouraged, and doing so is entirely at your own risk. New tanks can be obtained from our online shop
Disconnecting Counters 76_9600
Disconnecting Counters 76_9600Disabling the Epson Ink Monitoring System
The following procedures will let you disable or enable the ink monitoring system on the printer. With the monitoring system disabled, you will be able to print continuously, but you MUST NOT LET THE CARTRIDGE RUN EMPTY.

*Warning*
The following procedure will disable and enable the ink level indicator on Epson 4000/7600/9600 Wide Format printers. Disabling the ink level indicator will prevent the printer from being able to recognize an empty cartridge condition. This could result in air being drawn into the lines and possible damage to the print head. If the ink level indicator is disabled the user must manually monitor the level of ink in the cartridges to prevent printer damage.

Maintenance Req 0040 - display panel
Maintenance Req 0040 - display panelEpson says that there is a problem with some version of their 9600 firmware which set off a “MAINTENANCE REQ” warning too early in their lifespan. Only follow these instructions if you are sure your machine has prematurely reached this display warning. If not, replacement parts can be ontained from our shop at common spares.

If your Stylus Pro XX00s show an error on the LCD display which reads: MAINTENANCE REQ 0040. This is an error which lets you know you have hit 5000 prints and need to replace the pump cap assembly with the little squeegee blade that wipes the print heads during a cleaning job.

Older versions of the firmware erroneously set off this printer message. To get rid of it do the following steps then upgrade your firmware to at least version BW 0434 P.

1.Turn Printer Off
2. Hold “Paper Source” + Down Arrow + “Cut/Eject” (all at same time)
3. Turn printer on while still holding down all three buttons.
4. Release buttons when messages appear on LCD.
5. Push down button to reach “Clear Counters”
6. Push right arrow to select Clear Counter option.
9. Push down until you get to “Cleaner”
10. Push right to select and
11. Push “Cut/Eject” (Enter)
12. Wait for printer to go through the needed operations.
13. Turn printer off then turn on as you normally would.
14. You’re done! Remember to upgrade the firmware.

8 - There are 3 possible value settings for NPD:

0 - no ink check
1 - pigmented ink (there should be s star "*" at this setting)
2 - dye inks

9 - Change NPD setting to '0' (no ink check) by pressing the 'Paper Feed up' button and press
"Enter" - a star should now show next to the '0' value

NPD *0

10 -Switch printer off

11 - Switch printer on

12 - Close the ink lever in the ink cartridge bay

13 - Printer and driver shows the matte black ink is installed (or photo black ink)

You can use the same procedure to switch from matte black to photo black or from photo black to matte black.

What happens is that once you change the ink in the described way the printer re-sets the 'NPD' value back to '1' the next time you switch on the printer in the normal way (non maintenance mode).

Flushing the pipes
At that point the previous black ink, either matte or photo black, has not been flushed our of the printer. Here is what you need to do to flush the remaining ink:

Epson 7600:
The 7600 uses approximately 10 to12 ml of ink before the previous black ink is flushed out.
Create a 23"x 40" image in Photoshop and fill it with pure black (RGB 0,0,0).
I use inexpensive matte paper and print that image at 720dpi.
When you look at the finished print you will see that 2/3 of the print is photo ink as it looks a little bit dull and the rest of the print shows the nice dark matte ink.
When this image is done printing the ink line is charged with matte black (or photo black).

Epson 9600:
The 9600 uses approximately 20-22ml of ink before the previous black ink is flushed out. Use the exact same procedure as described above but create a larger image: 43"x40". This larger image is needed to flush the longer ink lines of the 9600:

Create a 43"x40" image in Photoshop and fill it with pure black (RGB 0,0,0).
Use inexpensive matte paper and print that image at 720dpi.
When you look at the finished print you will see that 2/3 of the print is photo ink as it looks a little bit dull and the rest of the print shows the nice dark matte ink.
When this image is done printing the ink line is charged with matte black (or photo black).
